The Effects of the 1934 Strikes on Spanish Politics
In late 1935, the two most influential socialist leaders Caballero and Prieto would join together to support the popular front. In January 1936, they, along with other parties on the left, came together and drafted the popular fund program. The unification of the left, even if it was a temporary measure, would exacerbate the polarization of Spanish politics. This had the effect of destroying the political center in Spain, with their supporters being pulled one way or the other.
