80,000 Hours Podcast

CHAPTER

Utilitarianism and the 80 Thousand Hours Mentality

Many people associate the kind of mentality that 80 thousand hours has about doing good. They associate that very strongly with consequentialism and utilitarianism. I'm pretty keen on utilitariaism. And it certainly does seem that utilitarianism should imply something like you should try to do as much good as you can with your life. Ro, when i sayte 80 thousand ors is about doing as much as possible, you're probably bracketing the possibility that there ar some hypothetical scenarios where doing as muchgood as possible might require intentionally killing a person.
