The human brain has not significantly changed in 40,000 years. You can only consciously think about one thing at a time. If you are interrupted, it takes on average 23 minutes for you to get back the same level of focus that you had before the interruption. Even if the interruption is as small as a text message. There have been a series of studies that have looked at this and I think it's really important for people to get their heads out around it.
