The night of rest two nights before your big event is the most important. I would certainly be cautious about doing any strength training in the week of a race, unless it's like something that you've been doing every day for the last 10 years. You might have going through phases where you're doing heavier weights or at places where you'redoing more explosive weights. And the competition phase when you get into that, those last weeks before, I think would be absolutely minimal.
