Can Variciguat Be Used to Treat Heart Failure?

The 2021 guidelines discussing yet another medication class, variciguat, which is an oral SGC stimulator. It was studied in the Victoria trial and was shown to be effective at reducing the combined and pointed death from cardiovascular causes or heart failure hospitalizations. So even though it's a fantastic drug and it's in the guidelines, sadly, it's not available yet in Canada. But when it is, I suspect that it will be another medication that we can use to ensure that patients do not get readmitted with heart failure after they have had a recent hospitalization.
