Cruft Is the Stuff That's Left Behind
In 19 15, harry odis cruft gave harvard university some money. The physics department at harvard wasn't particularly good at cleaning up after itself. And year after year, the detritus of research and innovation kept piling up. This led at m it to the term cruft. Cruft is the stuff that's left behind. It's the code we don't want to prune out of our code base. So general electric spins off its home appliance division, just sells the whole thing all at once.
