The History of the Gym

Gymnastics was already established in the 19th century, but it's a French man, Hippolyte Triatt, who really commercialized the gym as a space. He had equipment like ropes and trapeze, but it also had a complete collection of weights,. so dumbbells and barbells and also Indian clubs. Audiences could watch the show in galleries that were located around the sides of the room. The gym that opened in Liverpool in 1865 claimed to be the largest one in the world.
