The Place We Find Ourselves

CHAPTER

How Do I Respond to Anxiety With Compassionate Curiosity?

When we experience distress to a significant enough degree, our pre frontal cortex shuts down so that we can focus all our energy on the perceived danger. The further we are outside of our window of tolerance, the less likely we are to be able to have really any reflection or even notice at all. Andy: How do i get it back on line so that i can be compassionate and curious about what's happening inside of me? Great question. I love using grounding. What we're doing is essentially, were using our five senses to come back into the present moment, which, god willing, is actually safe and comfortable.
