David Page was fascinated with situations in which people with XY chromosomes could be women and people with XX chromosomes could be men. He sought to look at people's bodies, to look at their cells, to understand why they were presenting themselves in one way that was different from the expectation imposed upon them by chromosomal framework. "We see here that one's gender presentation motivates scientific observation and scientific discovery," he says.
