The question of why we stop growing is something that's a slight obsession of mine, which is a frustrating obsession because there's not much research on it one way or another. For muscle fibers to continue growing, they need to keep adding more myoneuclide so that the myoneuclear domains don't get too large. If you're untrained, just walking around, you are probably below your maximum myoneuclear domain limit. And I believe in humans after spinal cord injuries, essentially if all the neural activity to a muscle ceases, as that muscle atrophy's, it will eventually start losing myone Euclide.
