In part, it's the shortness and simplicity of the story. It's also the fact that it is a story with the temporal sequence of events. The brain contains a lot of different areas devoted to processing concrete information like sensory information or emotions. They don't sort of get summoned into action as easily as those other areas do. People who are concerned about this need to come up with counter stories or counter narratives.
