The longer you train the more important those basics are. The amount of damage that you or I could do to our body with a workout because of how developed we are is so much larger than it was when we first started. If you don't take care of those the minutiae almost becomes redundant thinking about all the specifics of programming and exercise related stuff isn't going to mean much if you're just fatigued to the max from not recovering through those those big things absolutely.
