Is Baptism God's Promise Delivered to Me?

Baptism is god's promise delivered to me, not a human work. We're not saved by human works completelyi save by grace alone. Some people take the perspective from outside of lutheran tradition that we're just kind of contradicting ourselves. But i would say it's really due to poor teachings or misunderstandings about baptism.
