Is There Incentives at Work Here?

There are incentives at work here it's not just sort of a nebulous cultural shift that happened. Let's take our current dysfunctional crazy quilt social benefit programs back to Salem, Massachusetts in 1670 and try to guess what proportion of the population there would be in food stamps. My guess is it would be a lot lower in Puritan New England because there would have been a lot of people who would have thought that if they did that they'd be going to hell. And it hell is quite as strong sales sales side of nowadays.
