Toxic positivity is the idea that when you tell people to just be positive, you are engaging in a very profound form of unseeing. I think really at the core of my work, my work is engaged with the threat of seeing versus unseeing. And so toxic positivity is one form of this. It's forced false positivity, which is wrapped up in rainbows and sparkles and unicorns. So it sounds good on the surface,. but it is a profound form of unseen and of denial That has real consequences for our health and our well-being.
