Is There a Transcendence in It?

There's a comfort and there's a transcendence in it, says Leonard Cohen. The very first artistic act that he took was when he was nine years old and his father died. He buried the bow tie and the poem in the backyard garden of their family house. There's a kind of like taking something painful and then turning it into something else. And I think that's like the real in terms of how to live. That's the real insight this tradition gives us.
