Militarism was a feature primarily of prussia and germany, but was becoming increasingly current in europe at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The germans were consciously fighting for a militarist society during the first world war. And they said it would be terrible if these degenerate views did become general throughout the world. That is the way things are going. We are fighting for societies which are honourable and virtuous, and which people are prepared to die and be heroic. This becomes, of course, ultimately the basis of facism, and particularly national socialism.
