When she got out of the military at age 26, LZ Granderson decided to change his brain. He started with remedial high school algebra and slowly climbed upwards. "The higher you go, the more you learn, the easier it gets," he says.
Dr. Oakley has a diverse background in linguistics going into military service after high school before coming back to get her Ph.D. in engineering. At a young age she believed she wasn't capable of learning math but through applying active studying techniques and learning how to learn overcame her ambivalences.
