Is the Data Correct?
If a paper turns up to our journal, where has it been rejected from previously? Was it reviewed? How was it regarded? You can absolutely draw a map of how things filter down or filter around on that basis. If you were an impact factor minded person, as in if you'd suffer from a profound closed head injury and didn't know anything, you could attempt to figure out which journal sort of discards were going elsewhere. There's a lot you could do with the data. It would be interesting if you could accept the fact that the data was accurate.
