The Axiom of Transparency in Games
I wouldn't be able to design a good game without having a very in-depth understanding of the player's mental state. And so that's sort of what led to this axiom that I keep thinking about, which is how do I make my games more transparent because if the player doesn't see it, it might as well not exist. It's actually more specific to digital platforms in that it's much easier for digital designers to create things that the players don't actually see. But sometimes the players will bring things to the game themselves that the designer never intended. They'll become creative, they'll start to role play or something like that. That's wonderful.
