Is There Any Way to Protect Academics?
Nigel Bigger has been accused of trying to look at colonialism in the round. Is there any way to ensure that academics like yourself who do write about this are able to do so without being assailed in this way? No, I think right now, if you're a young scholar or a young historian and you look at me, the implications are very clear, right? Don't. You will not get a job, especially as a white academic, unless you are more woke than the woke, right? And you need to be so virulently anti-colonial. The window has closed very narrowly and it's about to close even more firmly shut.
