What Are the Clinical Pearls for Hypokalemia?

The classic change that we talk about for hypokalemia is what we call a prominent u-wave. If the problem is diarrhea and you have an appropriate kidney response again you can keep giving all the potassium in the world but there also has to be an evaluation for why this patient having diarrhea. Another place to look at is can you liberalize the patient's diet to let them eat potassium rich foods? Makes a lot of sense. I think we have all learned a lot from this episode and our future patients who have low potassium will be treated much more thoughtfully. Thank you so much for your expertise Dr. Fruke.
