Why can habitual behavior around porn feel so automatic?
Your lower brain wants to avoid pain, seek pleasure, and be energy efficient.
One of the ways your lower brain is energy efficient is by automating patterns that bring you a big dopamine hit (pleasure).
It does this by skipping steps for you, and by repeating patterns it has already practiced a lot.
Until you have rewired your brain to the point that your porn habit patterns have faded completely, if left unguided, your lower brain will drift toward porn a percentage of the time.
It’s important to guide your lower brain with your upper brain (prefrontal cortex) when it comes to decisions about porn.
Also, tracing back when the decision to look at porn actually occurred, will clarify your power, and give you more power to change your patterns going forward.
