A new metric called GWP star is being used to measure non CO2 greenhouse gases. It ignores historical impacts from methane and also ignores a lot of the current stock of methane, says John Defterios. The Paris Agreement supports a global warming potential of 100 years, which is conservative but more important than what GWP star measures. If you were to create a new tool that would be pumped up about this new way of measuring climate change, defterios said it could reduce emissions by as much as 50 percent.
