Kipselus and the Bakiaidai

Kipselus ruled Corinth mildly, having no bodyguard and enjoying popularity amongst the Corinthians. His reign lasted 30 years, from 657 to 627 BC, a testimony to his general popularity. He imposed taxes on the people, which had never happened before in Greece. The Greek saw taxes as what barbarians gave to their kings. There were also laws forbidding men to acquire a large number of slaves.
