In response to an emotional stresser, sensory processing in the brain becomes inhibited. We need to act like things are fine until the point of total breakdown. But what that might paradoxically lead to is an inability to really deal with the fact that things aren't fine before the point of breakdown. And so how does being in this period of resistance get us kind of stuck into some really unpleasant situation, as opposed to helping us resolve our stressers and find a way through them more adaptively?
