Gars have a pungent, swampy type smell. Some species are even smellier than others. It's as gross as you think it is. I've had gar. It's actually really good. The appearance of the fish might make somebody like, i'm not eating that. There's just no way. But if you look at a patagonian toothfish, which is ino chilean sea bat sel, see about someoat this point. Probly not. I hom eating them anyway. Not the most appetizing looking fish. So i feel like this was another category whey te for they've got a bad reputation, but gar is actually pretty delicious
