The febrile infant can be defined in many ways, but for the purposes of risk stratification and workup, it is a rectal temperature of 38.0 degrees Celsius or more. There are three decision tools to consider based on whether or not you have access to procalcitonin at your place. If all these criteria are met, there's only a 0.7% risk of IBI and full septic workup is likely not required.
