Psychological rigidity and social anxiety have a more flexible counterpart. What you are doing when you go into a party is almost focused on how anxious you feel. You're projecting cognitively about the humiliations that will happen to you if you don't connect with others. When nervousness is just a little sign that this is important, I want to belong. That's not your enemy. But the mind's so stupid, it'll say, until you learn how to subtract, you can't add relationships of matter, love that matters, intimacy, commitment, loyalty.
