Is Mindfulness Exercised for the Mind?
Each of those systems we talked about of attention is supported by a distinct neural network. These networks tend to be not only separate from each other, but like mutually inhibitory. So if i'm very much lost in thought, the chances of me appropriately focusing on the extrera environment are going to be less. And so when i think about what mindfulness is, it's training the co ordination of these networks. It's training their improved healthfulness in their individual functioning. The kind of passing the baton between who gets prominente in my moment a moment experience comes from training them as well.
