The Dishonor of Philosophy
The notion that philosophers should rule, I suspect is repugnant to many people, but especially to conservatives. And it's a point that Socrates makes in Book 7 of his dialogues. He says if someone loves to study all the time, but doesn't like to go to the gym, work out, well, that guy, he's not good for it. You've got to be well-rounded.
