The idea that anybody's loss is more horrific than anybody else's loss, i really felt to be a mistake. The only way that i could relate to my patient who had lost her children in the siname was to realize that i had children. I knew what it was like to have children. You know, i just made her tell me about her children,. whether they were alive or dead, you know, was sort of irrelevant. And i think there can be something slightly perverse or addictive that keeps us scratching that itcho to keep us in state of heightened awareness.
