The Autonomous Vehicle Is Not Analogous With an Operator
The notion that elevators use have elevator operators, and now they don't. I've never found that persuasive for one,. They do have elevator operators still it's called you because you're the one person you know what floor you're going to. The street is a very different phenomenon. For obvious reasons, you have people who can freely move around in a lots of different directions on a lot of different vehicles all using the same pavement.
