The Importance of Body Roll in the Stroke

The other thing I'd like to look for is that you do have, you know, what's termed an S pattern pull. That's also another very common coaching tip that you need to get into a propulsive face early enough even if it's not a big vertical stroke. In athletes that don't have a lot of body roll they'll tend to exaggerate that so there's ends up being a lot of lateral movement which is obviously not the most effective way to swim. If we can keep that symmetry in the stroke and so it doesn't have to be necessarily,. you know, that perfect S shape that I just was talking about all that that's the ideal we'd be looking for
