The Role of Volume in Base Season Training

In some of the research, favorable forms of cardiac remodeling did seem to correlate fairly well with how many hours per week athletes were training. I think it's important to keep improving that oxidative capacity, which is the ability to utilize especially fats for fuel as well as oxygen-based glucose very well in mitochondria. So we want to improve that fat oxidation capacity so that when the competition comes, you can travel through the race, utilizing more fat than glycogen. And at the same time, you can improve that lactate clearance capacity.
