There are some fundamental flaws of efficient interaction in the whole idea of audio social media. It doesn't scale, that it doesn't have any asynchronicity to it and demands that you find something worth listening to or participating in every time you log on. The idea of linear audio makes it almost impossible to do effective marketing ads because they're going to interrupt the flow of what I'm doing. And then the last part is some things naturally monetize themselves, like search. You want there to be search ads when you do a search because search ads are one method of signaling to you that someone thinks it's worth you clicking.
