The Importance of Crank Life in Maximum Cycling
Dirk Franklin is a physio and former member of the British team pursuit team. He says shortening crank length can improve performance, but it's not relevant to power production in itself. As low as 80 millimeters for the first time becomes relevant and as big as 320millimetres. The higher and further forward you are, the more you can activate your glutes - hence why track sprints are like a croissant. But decreasing crank length gives that ability.
