The Functional Segregation of Muscles
In stance phase, the glute meat is actually a stabilizer and how does it do it? Well, if your glute means quote unquote off or not active,. what happens is the stance leg pelvis shoots up as the swing side pelvis drops. That's not good. We want a stable pelvis in gate and running gate. So we often think about abduction of the hip or glute mead as open chain when the leg is not in contact from the ground. And so everyone does all these Jane Fonda things thinking, all right, I'm working hip abduction so my glutes are stronger because it's a functional segregated way to approach it.
