If we ever want a peak, we have to run slower or less than peak performance. Even at your peak, you might have a slightly off day and go two seconds a miles slower. So if all you do is compare, that's not nto be very helpful. The purpose of a speed sation is to help you get faster. It isn't to test if they've already improved. It's to get the steps along the way. And effort level is the key thing there.
