The Difference Between 5% and 9% in an Ultra Marathon

In an ultra marathon context, it's bigger than that. I think in a hot weather race, it's ballpark 10%. It can very easily turn somebody that is on the borderline of one of those cutoffs. That percentage can make a pretty huge difference once you sum total at all. If you get everything right, roughly 10% is reasonable.
