In typical Churchillian fashion, he chose an unexpected form of leisure. Taught the craft by two employees at Chartwell, he immediately fell in love with Brick Lane. Unlike his other professions, writing and politics, Brick Lane didn't wear his body down. He could lay as many as 90 bricks in an hour. Painting was about expression of joy for Churchill, it was not work but leisure.
