Protein shakes are an easy way to get protein and whey protein contrary to what a lot of people think is very healthy. The muscle protein synthesis response does seem to be maxed out at about 30 grams of protein for most people. As we age, there's a phenomenon called anabolic resistance, which means that we just don't respond as well to the same dose of protein. A 20 year old will get from 25 grams of protein twice as much as somebody in their 60s.
