What Do You Think About the Bystanders?
The author's chapter on bystanders seemed to me the most personal and maybe the most impassioned in the book. "I don't think it's fair to necessarily point your finger at those individuals," he says of people who could have spoken out, but didn't. The average person living under a dictatorship is probably as fearful as anybody else, she adds.
