The Effects of Serotonin on Mood
I think people expect a very simple explanation of how serotonin should work. And when you look at all these depression studies that kind of said, oh, we looked at all the different types of antidepressants that affect serotonin and none of them work that well, one, there's a huge placebo effect with depression. And two, it really also depends on your genes. So for instance, stuff you have the MTHFR genes that predispose you to less kind of active folate, that you will be more prone to depression. That is really well understood. But for, you know, actual service serotonin genes and what kind of treatment you should get, I think that's up in the air.
