The Long Ride
In a five hour ride, you start cycling through muscle fibres. You're actually training those other fibres which normally ou can only get hit with high intensity work. The longer you go, the more you tend toward fre faty acid oxidation. Long endurance events are great for building up extra capillaries and turningfat on bator oxidiser. But again, if it's a three hour race, even if he won't be able to run 815 miles in that time, its not dependent on carbohydrate intake.
