The Ford Mustang was unveiled at the World's Fair in New York City on April 17, 1964. The car combined striking good looks with a surprising sticker price under $2,500. In its first 12 months on the market, Ford sold more than 400,000 Mustangs. Sales predictions were rapidly revised from 75,000 units in the first year to 200,000.
