i do feel it's important for students to think individually and retrieve individually as much as possible. So you would say, en what's one thing you learned yesterday? And then they would share that with a partner. You'll still get benefits of retrieval without spending five minutes in a classroom discussion. i love that retrieval can be even more simple in that there's plenty of research if a student just writes down two things or one thing they learned, and then moving on.
