The House of Worth and the Birth of Oak Couture

Charles Frederick Worth and Otto Boberg set up a fashion house in Paris in 1858. Within five years, the business would employ nearly 700 workers. By 1870, it's estimated that 1,200 people were employed at the House of Worth. Oak Couture is French for high sewing. The profession of a fashion designer as we know it today was born.
