How to Extend Your Breath Hold

When you go underwater, your physiology changes right away. Your heart slows down so that you're not using as much oxygen. The blood vessels in your periphery squeeze partway shut or almost entirely shut. And after you've been underwater for a little while, your spleen will basically squeeze itself like a sponge and release all these red blood cells carrying oxygen into circulation. So it's like a backup reservoir of extra oxygen.
