The right approach is generally a full range of motion focused on control in the eccentric, never skipping that loaded stretch or even emphasizing that loaded stretch. Any load less than that is probably not going to be as stimulative of muscle growth as efficient. The more weight you lift, the more each rep grows you, but you have to be able to do enough reps in a session without breaking into pieces. So load that's heavier than your five rep max, probably not intelligent for the long term.
